During Computex 2021, AMD and Samsung announced a partnership for the development of an Exynos chipset with RDNA 2 graphics technology. from Samsung.

Although there are still not many details on what the chip will look like or what products it will be present in, AMD said it will be the next generation of Exynos, while Samsung says more news on the matter will be revealed by the end of 2021. According to the announcement, the GPU with RDNA 2 architecture, which will be present in the Exynos chipsets, will support Ray Tracing and VRS (variable rate shading) technology.

The CEO of AMD, Lisa Su, said:

"The next place you'll find RDNA 2 will be the high-performance mobile market. AMD has partnered with industry leader Samsung for several years to accelerate graphics innovation in the mobile market, and we're excited to announce that we'll bring Custom graphical IP for Samsung's upcoming flagship mobile SoC with ray tracing and variable rate shading capabilities. About Exynos

The Exynos processor line is developed by Samsung for its smartphones. However, in several regions of the world, its Galaxy S series phones use Qualcomm chipsets, the Snapdragon. According to tests carried out with several devices with Exynos and Snapdragon processors, there is an inferiority in terms of performance and energy consumption on the part of the chipsets developed by the South Korean company.

    Expectations

It remains to be seen whether the technology developed by AMD will match or be superior to Adreno GPUs, developed by Qualcomm. However, citing support for Ray Tracing, the project is believed to be ambitious.
