Study reveals that 40% of people in the world are on some social network

According to a survey carried out by the companies Hootsuite and We Are Social, which control social networking tools, showed that more than 3 billion people already use social networks. Taking into account that there are about 7,5 billion people in the world, the number represents 40% of the world's population.

The trend is for the number of users to increase even more. In the last three months, for example, more than 121 million people have started using social media, an increase of 4%. The growth represents even more than 1 million new users of social networks per day.

40% of the population uses some social network

On the globe, more than 3,8 billion people have access to the internet, that is, 51% of the world population. In the last year alone, the way they access the network has changed dramatically. Traffic on computers and notebooks dropped 18% to 41%. Mobile devices increased by 21%, totaling 54% of total internet access.

Another change is related to "other devices", which includes video game consoles and connected domestic and industrial appliances, which grew 27% in the last year, now totaling about 0,14% of network accesses.

    Social Medias

Among the most accessed social networks, of course, it could not be different. Facebook appears at the top of the list, with 2 billion monthly active users. In second place appears YouTube, with about 1,5 billion users.

WhatsApp appears next with 1,2 billion users. It appears tied with Messenger, which also belongs to Facebook. This is all taking into account that messengers are also social networks. Otherwise, Instagram would be in third place, with 700 million users.

Of the total number of people who have a Facebook account, 60% of them access the social network daily. Of all Facebook users, 87% access the network through mobile devices, exclusively or not.

About 2,78 billion people out of a total of 3 billion access social networks through mobile devices. As far as the percentage of the world population is concerned, this represents 37% of all the inhabitants of the planet.

The study also showed that the number of people with cell phones with or without internet access in the world is approximately 5 billion, that is, two thirds of the population.
