Goodbye Tizen? Samsung is working on a Google Wear OS watch

It's not today that we hear rumors talking about a supposed new Samsung watch with Google's Wear OS operating system. But what was simply a rumor may have finally been confirmed. An XDA developer analyzed the Kernel source code for the Galaxy S20, and interestingly, found the name "Merlot", which seems to refer to an alleged new smartwatch from the company.

The most relevant factor is that the developer was able to identify the system on which the watch is being developed, indicating the basis of Wear OS, and not Tizen OS, a system produced by Samsung itself. This information joins so many others aired on the network, that Samsung is really working on a totally new watch, and with the intention of abandoning the proprietary system.

The device nicknamed "Merlot" has already been mentioned before alongside the current Galaxy Watch 3 and gave the first signs of appearance. Older rumors already pointed out that Samsung should present two new models of Galaxy Watch later this year, but it seems that only now the leaks are actually starting to circulate, and many of them reinforce the idea that Samsung has lost interest in its own system. operational.

Is Samsung abandoning the Tizen OS?

Apparently, the Chinese giant no longer intends to use its system in smart watch models, but it is worth noting that it is too early to say this, since the manufacturer has not said anything about it officially.

This stance by Samsung may go against its own initial proposal, which after years of building its Galaxy ecosystem with different devices, can finally stop introducing new gadgets. The company is one of the leading smartwatch manufacturers in the world market, and its operating system is fast, intuitive and consumes very little power.

The Gear Live was the last model of the South Korean manufacturer, which has since been using its own system and perfecting for the ecosystem of apps and other Galaxy devices.

According to famous informant Ice Universe, the first models to feature Google's Wear OS will be the Galaxy Watch Active 3 and Galaxy Watch 4 models. However, there is not much information to support this theory at the moment.
