Leaked image of Galaxy Bloom (Galaxy Fold 2), the new foldable phone from Samsung

Samsung's next vertically folding phone will be called the Galaxy Bloom, touted as the successor to the Galaxy Fold. Since last October there were rumors about this name. Additionally, the Galaxy Bloom's design was inspired by a Lancôme powder makeup box, and Samsung plans to target women in their twenties with the product. Below you can see the information leaked in a report by the website ajunews, obtained from a closed-door event at CES 2020.

Samsung reportedly held secret meetings at CES with partners and phone carriers, where it showcased as-yet-unannounced products. This is not surprising, as the company is known to do this at other times.

    Galaxy Bloom technical information

The same report also confirms previous rumors that the successor to the Galaxy S10 will be called the Galaxy S20, in celebration of Samsung's 20 years. Three models will be released in February: Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+ and Galaxy S20 Ultra.

A technical detail that came out in this report is that the Galaxy Bloom and Galaxy S20 will support 8K video recording. Previously, there were rumors that Bloom will have a 6,7-inch screen, in addition to coming with Android 10.

New Galaxy Fold 2 should be much cheaper

Other rumors reveal that the Galaxy Bloom will be surprisingly cheap, costing US$ 845 in the United States (R$ 3.459,18 in direct conversion). That, while unconfirmed, would make it much more affordable than the $1.980 Galaxy Fold and make it the first foldable phone from a major manufacturer costing less than $8.105,53.

The release date for both devices is February 11th. The Galaxy Fold 2 is slated to launch at the end of the year, according to previous reports.

    Design do Galaxy Bloom

In an image captured during the event, it is possible to see that the smartphone folds vertically, in the opposite way to what happens with the current Galaxy Fold.

The design was chosen to appeal to young women - an audience already familiar with the format, according to SamMobile.

    glass screen

The benefit of the plastic screen on foldable cell phones is that the plastic is flexible. This makes folding formats like the Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X possible. However, the downside is that plastic is also very prone to damage, as the Galaxy Fold's first tests found.

According to @IceUniverse, a famous leaker, Samsung's solution to this was to use an "ultra-thin glass cover" on top of the screen. Apparently, this coverage will be present on Galaxy Bloom.

There is more evidence for this detail. Samsung recently filed the "Ultra Thin Glass" patent in Europe, and a report by etnews mentioned the Fold 2 using this type of screen.

It can be confirmed that the Galaxy Fold2 leaked not long ago will use an ultra-thin glass cover for the first time in the world, replacing plastic materials. The screen looks flatter and has less wrinkles. In fact, this is the correct cover material for foldable phones. pic.twitter.com/BS73BCsA4N
