Google Duo already works on Android tablets via email address

We brought the news less than a month ago, now Google Duo starts to work without the need to register a cell phone number to be used.

One of the latest updates of Google Duo started to be used via cell phone. Before that, Android tablets and other devices that didn't have a cell chip needed a registered phone number to complete calls.

However, this update doesn't seem to apply to smartphones. This means that users will still need to provide their mobile number to use the app. This means that users outside the Android device ecosystem or those who do not have a SIMCard-enabled tablet or computer can also make video calls.

And, just like on the mobile platform, up to 12 participants can participate. Phone calls made without a phone number still have a requirement. Google Duo requires a Google account, as calls without a number are made using the Gmail account, something more than usual, since basically everyone who uses a device with an Android system has an active Gmail account.

This new update comes after Google brought several other features to Google Duo, such as noise reduction for calls, low light video capture improvements, etc.

As with many Google apps, the update doesn't arrive for everyone at first, but it should arrive faster than we think. So, if you have an Android tablet with Duo installed, see if there are any recent updates that haven't been done yet. It may be that the new feature is already available to you.

When the update arrives, a notification will appear at the bottom of the app's home interface. This informs users that their email address can now be used by others to contact them for video calls using Google Duo.
