Google employees raise over $200.000 in strike fund

This week, a Google employee said the company's employees had pledged more than $100 to a strike fund, all following news of the company's plans for China.

The latest news, according to the Intercept through a report, is about the responses of executives regarding the creation of a censored search engine in China. Thus, the report includes concerns on the part of engineers that the security and privacy process had been left out.

Liz Fong-Jones, an employee advocate, in response, said via Twitter that Google employees should consider how employees would respond if executives exceeded the security and privacy team's recommendations.

They should "think about what a strike fund would look like and what a mass waiver mutual support fund would look like, especially to provide coverage to people on H1B visas," she said. Fong-Jones even offered to match the first $100.000 raised.

"Ok, the total of $100 has been raised," Fong-Jones said in a tweet. "Watch this space for more details as I've spoken with the legal council and more experienced labor organizers."

Google has faced several protests from its employees in recent weeks. It is worth mentioning that at the beginning of the month, more than 20 employees came out to protest sexual harassment involving a company employee. Then officials protested against the design of a search engine for China.
