Now Android users will be able to enjoy the official app for Google podcasts, which was launched this Tuesday (19). The news is very welcome, as users of the iPhone's iOS operating system have had an app for the format for years. Google Podcasts are now available for download from the official store for Android apps, the Play Store.
On Google Podcasts, you can subscribe to your favorite shows and download episodes. According to Google, there are 2 million podcasts available for download in its program list, most of them in English. Google has stated that it intends to help spread podcasts to Android users.
The application is quite complete, with playback speed control that can go from 0,5x to 2x, in addition to useful buttons that allow you to go back 10 seconds or forward 30. On the home screen, there are the trending podcasts and the main ones, separated by categories such as: Comedy, Society & Culture, News & Politics, Arts and more.
There is also a screen that shows the new episodes of the program that has been listened to, in addition to showing those that are in progress and those that have been downloaded. You'll also receive program suggestions based on what you've already heard. Downloading and subscribing are free, and the ability to download helps when you don't have internet, because you'll be able to listen to them offline.
It is also possible to automatically sync the app with several other devices, just like Spotify. For example, you can pause the podcast on your smartphone to listen to it on your computer, where you can pick up where you left off, all done by the Google Assistant.
The company also says that several AI-powered features will be coming in the future, such as automatic closed captions and real-time transcripts of podcasts in other languages. Finally, everyone who has Android 4.1 and above, and a space of 111KB, will be able to download the app and enjoy the tools.
