Despite Google's efforts to keep the Play Store safe, we know that there are still millions of malicious apps present in the store. Fortunately, the company usually performs a "cleanup" from time to time, and this time, 38 malicious software were deleted after receiving reports that they contained irregularities and brought danger to users.
According to the security company "White Ops", the programs were able to penetrate deeper layers of Android to display unwanted ads. Security analysts said the apps entered the Play Store using a simple trick: a secure version was submitted for review, and after it was approved, a package containing adware was made available as an update.
"White Ops" also revealed that, of the 38 apps removed from the store, most of them brought image filters, tools to improve photos and solutions for selfies. Despite Google's quick response, analysts revealed that 17 apps had more than 1 million downloads. So if you have any of them on your smartphone, we recommend uninstalling them as soon as possible.
