MWC: MediaTek 5G modem reaches 4,2 Gbps speed

During the Mobile World Congress (MWC), MediaTek announced the news in its 5G portfolio to accelerate the deployment of devices with this technology in 2020 at frequencies below 6 GHz. The company demonstrated its 5G Helio M70 modem at 5G data transfer speeds and over-the-air mmWave tests with 5G antenna arrays. The Helio M70 demo featured 5G data speed of 4,2 Gbps.

5G technology has passed several tests and thus, the Helio M70 should be included in the devices later this year. "With the Helio M70, we guarantee manufacturers an ideal solution to deliver a 5G experience with lightning-fast connectivity and smart power savings, all in a compact form factor for the sleek design of smartphones," said TL Lee, General Manager of the Wireless Communications Unit. wire from MediaTek. "Our comprehensive 5G solutions drive the next wave of New Premium devices, delivering reliable, readily available and fast broadband to consumers around the world."

MWC: MediaTek 5G modem reaches speed of 4,2 Gbps.

The Helio M70 5G modem, from MediaTek's first generation of 5G solutions, comes with dual LTE and 5G (EN-DC) connectivity, plus dynamic power sharing capability, as well as multi-mode support for every generation of cellular connectivity from 2G to 5G The Helio M70 can be used with both standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) frequency band 5G network architectures below 6GHz.

The main features of the Helio M70 are: superior speed, usage of standards, New Radio (NR) Bands and global 4G LTE bands, Multi-mode support, Smart Power Saving and Robust connectivity.

MediaTek uses frequencies below 6 GHz to bring 5G connectivity to major markets, which is ideal for urban and rural environments.

Several companies collaborate with MediaTek on Front Frequence Front End (RFFE) technology including Oppo, Vivo and top tier RF providers Skyworks, Qorvo and Murata to define a front-end module solution that accommodates 5G components without changing the thickness of a smartphone device.

In addition to 5G, another important connectivity strategy from MediaTek is to insert AI everywhere. Even as 5G connects consumers to the cloud at lightning-fast speeds, advanced AI processing will play an important role in delivering real-time AI experience to consumers.

The company also actively participates in the 3GPP LPWA specification for Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT). NB-IoT is designed to support connectivity at scale. MediaTek's MT2625, an ultra-low power NB-IoT platform for 3GPP Release-14, can be used in a wide variety of home, urban, industrial or mobile applications.
