Porn revenge becomes a crime after approval of bill 18/2017

On Wednesday (9), the Commission on Human Rights and Participatory Legislation approved the replacement for the project that makes pornographic revenge a crime, that is, the disclosure and public exposure of sexual intimacy.

The House Bill 18/2017 modifies the current Maria da Penha Law and the Penal Code, thus establishing imprisonment and also a fine for anyone who discloses someone’s intimate content. The author of the proposal, deputy João Arruda (PMDB-PR), says that the legislation does not protect women from the violation of their privacy, which appears especially in the dissemination of images, data and personal information on the internet without her consent.

Bill makes revenge porn a crime

What is revenge porn and why is it important for you to know how to combat this type of act

Senator Gleisi Hoffmann (PT-PR), the commission's rapporteur, recognized the need to typify the explicit mode for violent conduct that is characterized by pornographic revenge. However, she proposed some changes to the original text in order to guarantee maximum protection for the victim with the minimum change in the law.

To complete, an increase in the penalty was proposed, on the grounds that the penalty in the project is too light. For such cases, the penalty for the crime goes from three months to one year of imprisonment, in addition to a fine, according to the original project, to six months to two years of imprisonment and a fine.
