One of the codes, which is being provided by the company Coinhive, has already been detected on more than 2.500 websites, the practice is called "cryptojacking". The process has already been seen on the Showtime website, on The Pirate Bay, on a website linked to the MBL, and now the code has also been identified on the São Paulo Government website. The feature was already in the testing phase, along with the beta version of Opera 50. Now, as of yesterday (3), the update is officially released to all users.
To activate it is only necessary to activate the browser's built-in adblocker in the preferences. If the user wants to see the ads and still protect himself against cryptojacking, he must check the "No Coin" box.
"We are fans of cryptocurrencies, but we just don't accept that sites are using people's computers to mine coins without their knowledge or consent. With the new Opera 50, we want to start 2018 by providing people with a simple way to regain control of their assets. computers," said Krystian Kolondra, head of Opera's desktop browser department.
According to AdGuard, responsible for analyzing the 100 most popular websites (as per the analysis company Alexa), the number of websites using cryptojacking grew by 31% over the previous year.
