Chrome releases update to fix critical security flaw

Last Thursday (30), Google released an emergency update to fix two critical zero-day failures (day zero, those that were not known until then). In short, they allowed loopholes for cyberattacks and have already been exploited by attackers. The update is for desktop version 94.0460671 for Windows, Mac and Linux.

According to the company, there are a total of 4 fixes, of which two are critical for being zero-day. The first vulnerability, coded as CVE-2021-37976, is described as a medium-severity "core information leak". The flaw was discovered by Google TAG researcher Clément Lecigne, with technical assistance from Sergei Glazunov and Mark Brand of Google Project Zero, on September 21.

The second flaw, tracked as CVE-2021-37975, is seen with high severity. This is said as it addresses an issue in the V8 JavaScript software engine. The problem was detected on September 24, by a researcher who preferred to remain anonymous.

    Chrome Update

According to the official Chrome blog, stable updates with a wide distribution should happen "in the next few days or weeks" automatically. Despite this, it is now possible to update manually by restarting the Chrome browser.

To do this, just go to the menu with 3 dots, in the upper right corner, and then click on "Help". After that, click on "About Google Chrome". The software itself will look for the 94.0.4606.71 update, and ask you to restart your browser.

Finally, if the version for this update is not available, please try later. When downloading the update, make sure it is running.
