Google engineers invest for users to abandon URLs

Google Chrome recently completed ten years of existence. To commemorate the date, the browser ended up getting a revamped look. Now, to follow the line of changes, Google is already thinking about the next few years.

Engineers at the search firm, in an interview with Wired, said that Google is thinking of a way to replace the URLs.

The idea is that Internet users stop using addresses to access portals and social networks they frequent. They, in short, just translate an IP address which, according to the company, has several security issues.

"It's hard to read, hard to know which part of it is true, and overall I don't believe URLs are working as a good solution for converting a website's identity." - Adrienne Porter Felt, lead engineering at Google.

The team still does not know how to insert the novelty. Engineers are still evaluating some projects already thought out, but stressed that it is too early to share any ideas on the topic.

"The focus at the moment is to identify all the possibilities of how people use URLs to try to find an alternative that will improve security, integrity and identity online while adding convenience to routine activities like sharing links on smartphones."

The company knows that any change can cause problems, since, initially, this type of situation generates resistance. Therefore, it has not yet been defined.
